The youth ministry programs at St. John’s are tailored specifically for both Senior High and Mid-High School students. Our goal for all of these programs is to encourage and guide our youth to become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Our ministry and youth are driven to achieve this through commitments to community, discipleship and outreach.

SOLID GROUND
Solid Ground is the centerpiece of youth ministry at St. John’s for both Senior High and Mid-High School students. This youth group meets in the youth center at St. John’s every Sunday night from 5:00pm-7:00pm for worship, games, testimonies, fun, fellowship and a short challenge from the Word of God.

STUDENT MINISTRY TEAM

St. John’s strongly believes in student leadership. The Student Ministry Team was designed to encourage students to take ownership of, and direct, the program. The team is lead by student-elected CORE officers who plan and implement program ideas and responsibilities with the youth director.

SERVICE PROJECTS

Reaching out and touching those who need extra help, support or attention in our city and extended community is an important part of our youth program. Our youth have served The Storehouse, Feed-The-Need, Cuidando Los Ninos, Healthcare for the Homeless, The Crop Walk, and the Joshua Project just to name a few.

YOUTH MUSIC PROGRAMS

Sonrise Choir, Grades 6 through 12
The Sonrise Choir sings in the 8:15 AM worship service every Sunday. Participants in Sonrise are instructed in personal vocal development as well as choral technique. The choir also participates in an every-other-year Music and Missions trip.

Sonnerie Youth Bells, Grades 6 through 12
Members of this bell choir learn music reading skills as well as ringing technique. This ensemble participates in worship several times each year.

Youth Praise Band, Grades 6 through 12
The Youth Praise Band provides music for our Solid Ground youth group on Sunday evenings and lead worship a few times throughout the year.

St. John’s Orchestra, Youth and Adult
Youth and adult instrumentalists are welcome to participate in this ensemble. The St. John’s Orchestra rehearses weekly and performs in worship several times each season.

SUNDAY SCHOOL & CONFIRMATION
St. John’s offers four Sunday school classes specifically for youth: 6th grade, Confirmation, 8th Grade, and Senior High.

MUSIC & MISSIONS TRIP

Every other year Solid Ground and the Sonrise youth choir embark on a Music and Mission Trip. Life-long memories and friendships are created as the two groups unite to share the gift of music and serve those in need. The destination for the 2010 M&M trip is southern Mississippi which is still recovering from damage resulting from Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

CAMPS, RETREATS & LOCK-INS

Throughout the year there are several opportunities for youth to getaway and shake up the routine. Camps, retreats and lock-ins provide our youth with the opportunity to connect with God, self and others in a safe and supportive Christian environment.
